Anna Pavlova was a Russian dancer of the early 20th century, and one of the most famous ballet dancers to date. Very petite and ethereal with a classic beauty, her Giselle was very enchanting. The Dying Swan was choreographed for her by Michel Fokine.

Margot Fonteyn, an English dancer, was another. In fact, she was considered one of the greatest dancers of her time. She had a great stage presence. She was partnered with Nureyev after he defected to the West, and in them, one of the greatest partnership in ballet was witnessed.

For famous dancers of this century, however, you can try looking up Darcey Bussel (one of the last British principals in the Royal Ballet, who retired earlier this year), Svetlana Zakharova, Polina Semionova, Alessandra Ferri (retired also). And the Paris Opera Ballet premier danseuse/etoiles Marie Agnes Gillot, Agnes Letestu and Aurelie Dupont. Also Nina Aniashvilli and Sylvie Guillem. And Vladimir Malakhov of Staatsballet Berlin.
alicia alonso....she was blind and still could dance!!!
